Privacy notice

This notice covers keepwhy.com and the KeepWhy iOS and Android app, currently being prepared for release.

Who is responsible?

Represented by managing director Thomas Wagner. Contact us with the subject “KeepWhy Privacy” for data-protection requests.

This website and its hosting

Opening this website involves processing connection data, including your IP address, request time, requested address, browser/device information and, where sent, the referring page. We use this to deliver the website, diagnose errors and prevent abuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in secure, reliable operation.

Our host is Vercel Inc., USA. Connection and log data may be processed outside the EU/EEA, including in the United States. We do not promise EU-only website hosting. Vercel describes its transfer safeguards, including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses, in its Data Processing Addendum and Privacy Notice. Contact us for information or a copy of the applicable safeguards.

Technical logs are retained for the time needed for delivery, error investigation and security, according to the host’s technical log-retention settings. Incident-related data may be needed until an incident is resolved or legal obligations are met. We do not create an additional visitor database.

Website analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand which public pages are visited and improve this website. Reports include aggregated page views, referrers, approximate location and browser/device information. This integration applies to the website only; it does not receive your app archive, reasons, photos or voice recordings.

Vercel derives a short-lived visitor identifier from incoming requests and discards it after 24 hours. It does not use analytics cookies or identifiers shared across websites. We remove query parameters and fragments from reported page URLs and exclude shared-card pages under /k/. We do not send custom events or the choices made in the interactive example.

The purpose is aggregate audience measurement and website improvement, based on our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Vercel processes the measurements as our service provider; the international-transfer information above also applies. Aggregate report availability follows our Vercel plan and retention settings. See Vercel’s Web Analytics privacy documentation. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests as described below.

Cookies and the interactive example

We do not use advertising cookies. Fonts and images are served with the site; no third-party videos are embedded. The example card uses only the open page’s memory and does not save your choices in cookies or browser storage.

Your archive in the app

Links, photos, notes, reasons, tags and item status are stored locally. KeepWhy has no account, server-side archive or cross-device sync. We do not receive your archive on our servers. The purpose is to provide the functions you request, under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Items remain until removed. Tossed entries are cleaned up after 30 days when the app next runs the relevant cleanup. “Clear this device” removes the local archive. It does not remove previously exported copies. Device backups enabled through your operating system may also contain app data, according to your settings and that provider’s terms.

Complete’s optional voice feature requests on-device recognition only, for supported devices and installed languages. KeepWhy has no cloud fallback and retains no audio file. Recognized text becomes your locally saved reason. Microphone, speech, photo and notification permissions serve the relevant function and can be revoked in system settings.

Widgets use local operating-system interfaces to read your daily card. Reminders are scheduled locally. When you export or share, you choose the destination app or storage provider, which then receives the selected information.

Link previews and store purchases

Saving a link can trigger a direct request to that website and its preview-image host. They receive connection data such as your IP address and requested URL and may be located outside the EU. Your personal reason is not sent in the preview request. The legal basis for this requested link feature is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Apple or Google handles downloads and purchases under their own privacy notices. The app processes store purchase and transaction information to unlock Complete, check ownership and restore purchases; KeepWhy does not receive your card number. No RevenueCat service is used. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, and Article 6(1)(c) where legal retention obligations apply. See Apple’s privacy information and Google’s privacy information.

Contacting us

We process your email address, name if provided, and message to answer your request using our business email systems and providers. Contract-related enquiries rely on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR; other enquiries on our legitimate interest in responding under Article 6(1)(f). We delete completed enquiries when no legal retention requirement or unresolved claim requires them. You do not have to contact us to use this website. Please omit private archive contents unless needed.

Your rights

Subject to the legal conditions, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction and portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests for reasons relating to your situation, and withdraw consent for future processing. Contact info@sydacos.com. For device-only contents we have no archive access; the app provides viewing, export and deletion. We do not request extra identifying data solely to identify you in otherwise unlinked technical records.

You may complain to a data-protection authority, including the authority where you live. The authority for our registered location is the ULD Schleswig-Holstein, Holstenstraße 98, 24103 Kiel, Germany. KeepWhy makes no automated decision about you with legal or similarly significant effects; the daily-card selection is a local app function.
